✨ album of the month: The Mess We Seem To Make by CRAWLERS (inspired by Fleabag) ✨
Greetings folks,
I’ll admit it, I am currently feeling the monthly wrap-ups. We shall see how this goes. Blog content is going well in general and March promises lots of vampiric content! The only downside is I hate Grammarly a bit more every day.
I came to the realisation that I need to actually read the sequels to books because I have a massive list of unfinished series. So my new goal for the year is to finish my series, alongside my physical TBR, can I do it? Who knows. I did read three sequels this month so progress has been made.

Court of Wanderers by Rin Chupeco 🎧
Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC via NetGalley.
The sequel to Silver Under Nightfall was a little disappointing, but rest assured, if you love the characters (which you will), you will still enjoy this book because of them. Following the main characters to the vampire courts with Remy acting as their familiar in disguise. The plot felt underwhelming with little character growth and didn’t take full advantage of the setting. In a way, the plot felt like it tried to do too much. Instead, I would have preferred a tight focus on the vampire court itself and a strong emotional presence from each character. At least it had the charm of the previous book, but alas, I wanted more.
The Roommate Risk by Talia Hibbert
I was eager to read this book, but I was still surprised by how much I enjoyed this tender, hot story. It is a short novel where the only plot is the relationship, the ultimate friends-to-lovers journey. Friends from university, she doesn’t do relationships and he is obsessed with her. A simple set-up, but it felt like such a luxurious dream to experience a romance where the characters know each other intimately and call it perfection. You want love, this is it. It spoke about emotional challenges truthfully, from fear to the danger of being all-consuming. It was a perfect, emotional romance. I like how the sex scenes were able to showcase devotion and steam, showing different sides to their romance. It could be both nice and hot, they are not mutually exclusive by any means. You have to read this book if you are a romance fan.
These Infinite Threads by Tahereh Mafi 🎧
The sequel to This Woven Kingdom. In fairness to this series, it isn’t for me, but I know of so few Persian fantasies that I really wanted to love it. This book doesn’t focus on setting enough for me to push through to the final book in the trilogy. With this in mind, I didn’t enjoy this book. SPOILERS!! Taking place after the cliffhanger ending, Alizeh is taken by Cyrus to be his wife whilst Kamran is left reeling from the lies. Alizeh and Cyrus’s enemies-to-lovers relationship felt so performative I wanted to roll my eyes. The insults were weak considering the situation and the emotional connection was severely underexplored, where did it come from really?! This was not helped by the audiobook which made Alizeh sound like a petulant child. On the other side, Kamran was refreshing. After a conventional start in the first book, he was left betrayed by everyone with a dark rage overshadowing his actions. From charming to bitter, his emotional journey felt real. This was, sadly, cut short. Leading to my final criticism, why did this book only take place over two days?! Nothing happened! Given the focus was on emotions, more time was needed to see their trajectories, not their feeble starts. Please.

A new YA fantasy duology which was easily delightful. Some things that are important to note… this is not a love triangle, this is bisexual rights, this is a C-drama in book form. Honestly, it’s a great example of what YA fantasy has to offer. Fun, clear-cut characters with plenty of emotional destruction. This book follows Rui, an exorcist-in-training, who has lost her powers and Yiran, a prodigy with nothing to show, who suddenly has the powers he always wanted. This was a refreshing way to look at magical gifts as you see their loss and gain and what it means. Throw in underworld investigations, a whimsical book boyfriend and meddling kings of hell, and you have a perfect adventure with charm and heart. I think one part of the plot dynamic was introduced too late into the novel and the strongest parts were when the three characters were together (but for plot reasons, this couldn’t be all the time). But overall, I hope this book triumphs because it is the ideal book for the community to swoon over.
The Atlas Complex by Olivie Blake
This series provides a unique reading experience and the author speaks about who the most suited readers are for these books in the acknowledgments, hitting on every reason I love about these books. It is about ethics, which means it asks questions without providing an answer. It also means the characters are answers to questions you didn’t ask, but you get to uncover this along the way. The characters see themselves differently from how the others see them, and it is this exploration that makes me so excited. This book encourages me to think and discover, it asks something of the audience. It doesn’t choose conventionality, making for an enriching experience. I can see why these books aren’t for everyone, but I am so glad I found them. The final book was what you would expect in the best way, it didn’t surprise you because it was all about laying the groundwork which is why I could see the series ending no other way. A slice-of-life fantasy reflecting on modern society and the relationships we discover with other people. It deserves a more profound review covering all the details which made me excited about literature, but it’s between me and the book. Ultimately, that’s why I love it.
Murder in the Family by Cara Hunter 🎧
I am not rating this one as I sometimes drifted with the audiobook. So, I didn’t get a full picture of every event and I forgot the experts’ specialities. My own fault. So, take my review with a pinch of salt. I enjoyed the TV show set-up, I find mysteries of detectives being “in the case” formulaic so this provided something new. It takes away the bias of following one narrator and adds multiple voices and skills. I like how it included them in the story too. You don’t get attached to them as the script writing means there is a distance but the distance also keeps you guessing. I liked the addition of hearing from the news and audience as it provided other hints. It does create a winding road of mysteries, sometimes intriguing, other times I felt like they were added for the sake of more reveals. The end reveal was weak to me, and I did wonder how things hadn’t come to light earlier in the timeline, and why the siblings hadn’t talked more? Basically, I liked the delivery, but the story only had “moments” for me rather than any “wow” factor.

MARIE-ANTOINETTE // Still watching, still loving. A great watch for historical lovers.
THE GREAT POTTERY THROW DOWN // The final is in two weeks and we all know who will win. Not my favourite series overall, but still charming.
ALICE & JACK // One of those “real” love stories. I appreciate how the serious tones make the drama feel both more grounded and more devastating. It captures a non-linear love story, full of mistakes, connection and life. It isn’t a show you want to binge-watch, but I’m glad I watched this because it had something to say (great dialogue) and the characters are compelling.
A MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD // A modern twist on “and then there was none“. I saw a review mention how it was Gen-Z meets Agatha Christie which is pretty accurate. I like the style and tone of this murder mystery, bringing forward other discussions as it builds slow suspense.

Aww thank you so much for sharing my post ❤
Honestly you are such a mood cause same, the pile of unread sequels is so high I could cry. And a lot of them are sequels of series I started a while ago so I've forgotten major stuff and need to re-read the first book. I kid you not I have abandoned a series or two over the pain of re-reading the first book, ugh.
SO now I make sure to read the sequel within a month of the first book, LOL.
I'm glad you've been catching up on your sequels even though they've been kinda disappointing, oops.

You’re very welcome 🥰🤗
Why it is so easy for the amount of unfinished series to increase every month?! It’s not fair 😭😂
Time passes too quickly. Sometimes I just read spoiler review to jog my memory but it isn’t the same.
I like your plan of reading the sequel within a month, I need to adopt it!
Thank you, hopefully progress will be made and I will get some better sequels soon 😁

Thank you so much for linking to my Faebound review ❤️❤️
Yay for lots of vampiric content. I love that you’ve gotten into the genre. I’ve just started A Tempest Of Tea and if it carries on being as good as its beginning I may have to babble about it until you cave and pick it up 😂
Good luck with the sequels. I majorly need to catch up with those too. Hopefully we can both get there 🤞
Seeing your mention of the vampire court being the setting for Court Of Wanderers (I suppose I should have guessed that given the title 🙈) made me so excited so it’s frustrating to hear that it wasn’t really taken advantage of enough.
You’ve made me really tempted by Roommate Risk which proves how passionately you talk about it given my fantasy favouritism 😂
I’m sorry to hear that These Infinite Threads didn’t really work for you. I know the ending had given you hope that the sequel would be stronger 😪
Ooh I love the sound of the loss and gain of power angle that you’ve mentioned for Darker By Four. And Kings of Hell 😍 I own the authors debut so I should really start there but you’re majorly tempting me to pick up this one.
I still need to read the Atlas series but it will be interesting to compare thoughts once I do. I think the how characters see themselves versus how others see them sounds fascinating though.
And you read a thriller??? I’m sorry that it had a let down of an ending. Especially as the approach sounded fascinating. Its so frustrating when the reveal is weak with that genre as it can really make or break a book.
I hadn’t even heard of one of the TV shows that you watched 🤔 but I’m glad you enjoyed them. I really want to try pottery one day. Ive never seen the show but I’ve always thought it seems fun.
Ooh I shall definitely be checking that review for Tempest out once I’ve finished the book. Although I definitely hope to read some of the others too.
As to sequels one that wowed me last year was the finale to ADSOM, definitely my favourite within the series. Off the top of my head I’d say disappointment wise the third Grave Mercy book. The first book wasn’t as good as I’d expected but then I loved book two so it gave me more hope. Then the finale felt weakest of all.
I hope that you discover lots of new favourites this month. And shall be keeping a look out for your promised vampire posts.

You’re welcome 💜❤️
Haha I hope you like them 🦇 it has been fun exploring the genre! Oohh I’m so happy you’ve been enjoying A Tempest of Tea, I will have to pick it up then!! Please scream at me about it!
Thank youuu, good luck to you too ✨
Haha court has been included in many fantasy titles, you don’t always think what it means now 😂 The court setting was still intriguing but it could have been so much more!
Yay, if you want to try out a romance, I think it is a good place to start. Short and sweet. Plus I loved the romance!
It was a shame as I was quietly hopeful! I think it was mostly a case of “not for me” as it has high ratings. If you try it out, hope it works for you!
Darker by Four had a great plot and the characters were amazing! Very captivating! Oohh this book was dedicated to the readers of Jade Fire Gold which I thought was cute ✨ I’ve heard great things about it and after this book, I would be tempted to read it. Hope you love it! (and yes please read darker by four)
I will be curious to hear your thoughts on the atlas trilogy, it can be hit or miss. I hope it is a hit for you though. 🥰
I did, I think mystery plots shouldn’t rely solely on reveal at times. I think adding danger is more suspenseful, like being trapped with the killer. That’s just me, but a disappointing reveal is certainly memorable for the wrong reasons. The approach made it a worthwhile read… I think 😅
Hehe a quiet gem! Ty, you should watch the pottery throw down. Very similar vibes to the bake off, and creative too🏺
Hope you like reading the reviews, happy to share them 🥰
I’m glad you enjoyed the finale to ADSOM, it makes me tempted to continue! The characters seem to have intriguing journeys!
Aw.. It’s a shame about Grave Mercy, it is a gutting feeling 😔
Thank you, and you ❤️❤️
Hehe, yay thank you so much 🥰

I’ve already spotted the first one 😍 checking it out properly as soon as I finish catching up on comments!! It was really good and I hope that you enhiy it too 🤞 the writing was so beautiful that I was half tempted to just share dozens of quotes instead of a review 😂 it has some really harrowing backstories to it too and an intriguing mix of characters. So yes, read it then we can discuss it fully!!
Thank you.
True, it is one of those words that pops up a lot. And that’s good to hear, just a shame it wasn’t used to its best advantage.
I’ll bare that in mind, thank you for the recommendation ❤️
I feel like I might end up feeling similarly to you as I enjoyed parts of the first book but was underwhelmed by others. I’ll let you know what I think when I finally read it (I do still plan to, it’s just not really a priority).
Yay that’s wonderful to hear. And that is a sweet dedication. Thank you. I’ll definitely let you know how I find both.
Thanks. I’m hoping it’ll be a hit as I adored the authors writing in One For My Enemy 🤞
I agree, they need more going on than just the reveal. Its just such an important aspect that it can ruin everything when it goes wrong. And yes that kind of danger can be fantastic, as long as its done in the right way. I so hope you find a thriller that works for you one day.
I might try and check it out one day (once I’ve finally watched Shadow & Bone). It could be fun seeing what people create.
Thank you ❤️
I loved all three but I felt like certain aspects were tied up too easily within the first book but that one definitely made up for it.
I was convinced I’d love it based on the premise but I guess you never 100% know 😪

Ahh.. I am sooo happy to hear you enjoyed it. The writing and characters stood out to me in WHTF so I imagine she’s only gotten stronger since 😍😍 hopefully I will soon!
It is 😂😂
❤️❤️
Aw.. Maybe we might feel similarly then, it’s a shame. Thank you, I hope you enjoy it more then I did for your own sake!
Yay, thank you 🥰
It’s a good sign! Hopefully I will read that one soon!
It is a distinct part, I agree! Thank you, I hope to read Girl A at some point!
Let me know if you do 🏺✨
That’s great to know, I love a powerful finale!
Aw… It is so disappointing when you are let down!

I look forward to checking that duology out. And seeing what you think of Tempest.
Thank you, I’ll let you know how it goes. Its kind of doubly a shame as didn’t we both get a special edition of book one?
Ooh let me know when you do. I can’t wait to read the authors next book as I adored that debut.
Will do (:
Same here. They really tend to stick with you.

Yeah the waterstones exclusive, you always want to love those ones. I almost got the special editions of the sequels too as I think the naked spine is gorgeous on the first book, but probably best I didn’t!
I will, it was from your rec that made me add it to my TBR! 😁 Hope you enjoy the next book!
Indeed!

I’m going to have to dig my copy out as I can’t remember what the spine of it looks like 😅 and yes probably best you didn’t then. I do get the temptation of pretty books though.
Yay I thought that was one of the thrillers I told you about. Thank you, I’ve actually got an arc of it so I’ll be able to let you know what I think pretty soon 🎉

I’m loving these more regular wrap-ups of yours! And I highly relate to all the unread sequels, too, unfortunately 🙈 Like, I’ll initially be so excited about them and then get sidetracked by other series while I wait to actually get my hands on a copy of those sequels…Oops 😁
I’ll take your word for The Atlas Complex, though, and stear well clear myself! 😬😂 I mean, I’m happy you liked it, but everything about the way you described it has me thinking I’d hate it just as much as the previous two installments…
Also, thanks so much for linking my post and being all excited about Iceland with me! Have a great March! 💙

Yay, thank you 🥰 I’m surprised by how much I am enjoying writing them!
The sequels build up far too easily 😅 especially with fantasy! You want to read them but there are so many other books too. I’ve decided I have to read half of my top priority sequels before starting another series, wish me luck 😁
The third Atlas book is very much the same vein of the others so I would save yourself the pain 😂
Of course 🥰 it was a fabulous post! Thank you, wishing you a lovely March too! ❤️
