My Reading and Blogging Stats | the 2022 edition

Hey everyone!

As time continues to leave us behind. Seriously what is happening?!?

Anyway, it is time to do one of my favourite end-of-year posts and look at my stats from 2022. Here we get a closer look into my reading and blogging year.

My Reading Stats of 2022

total books read: 67

total pages read (approx): 24,378 pages

how much did I read per month?

I love seeing my books read set out on a monthly graph (thank you Storygraph). It is interesting to see how much it varies.

HIGHEST MONTHS: February was a shared highest with 9 books, which I believe is down to reading 3 graphic novels. Then October had 9 as well because I wanted to complete my reading diary post, I set a lot of autumnal books aside. I couldn’t do it every month, but it was fun.

LOWEST MONTHS: January, at 2 books, is always a slow month, to be honest, and September had 3 books. I actually read the majority of the 600 pages for The Secret History but they got counted for October as that’s when I finished it. Therefore, not as bad as it looks.

what were the page lengths of each book I read in 2022?

I would like for one year the over 500 pages proportion to be higher than the under 300 pages, but there is nothing to cry about here, so all good.

what age groups did I read in 2022?

I read mostly adult which I am very happy with as they tend to be the books I enjoy the most. I did work on my physical TBR a lot this year (or tried to, my goal of 4 per month was successful twice) as I owned a lot of YA books that didn’t interest me as much as they once did. It is why I am determined to keep my physical TBR down so the books reflect the taste of the books I want to read now.

what formats did I read in 2022?

As mentioned before, I focused on my physical TBR in 2022 as I will be in 2023. I have just under 30 books at the minute so it is possible. I find audiobooks definitely help me read more books, otherwise, I would only read about 30 books a year. I tend to use them when walking my dog but she has slowed down in her old age so I don’t get to use them as much now. The ebooks were mostly graphic novels.

what genres did I read in 2022?

Fantasy is my most-read genre which doesn’t surprise me and I just hope that segment gets bigger every year. I’ve tried out many genres but I don’t enjoy them as much as fantasy so I don’t want to spend my time on them as much as I have been.

I was surprised to see mystery/thriller as my third most-read genre, but with my Halloween reads and dark academia project, it makes sense. It was not a successful experiment but I’m glad I did it. Horror and non-fiction would be genres I’d like to explore more.

My blogging highlights/Stats of 2022

I have posted 54 times this year (including the nook) which means I have fulfilled the goal of a post per week technically, but I know I skipped some weeks, instead having 2 posts per week.

I could work on the consistency but I am chuffed that I have posted that much and actually enjoyed doing it. I am quite pleased with my content this year if I do say so myself. Therefore I would call this my most successful blogging year to date due to personal contentment!

I had the best year I’d ever had in terms of views and visitors (just below 11,000 views) as well, but it was the most I posted in 2 years so it makes sense. It is quite a lot for me and I use no social media to gain an audience, so I’m pretty happy with that. I do get fewer comments and engagement now. Presumably, as I don’t blog hop as much as I used to. This change was expected, but I am extremely thankful for everyone who did view, like or comment on my blog!

most viewed posts of 2022

My ‘A Sky Beyond The Storm’ Thoughts post has been my most successful one ever. It is a long post so I’m surprised. I know views don’t necessarily mean it has been read, but I’m happy people seem to like it.

The second post was technically my black-and-white photo challenge, but it’s boring. So, The Morally Grey Character Discussion. I actually feel like my opinions have changed since this post so I don’t love it anymore, but the me who wrote it would be very happy.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo review is probably popular following the movie news as it often leads to an influx of new readers. I actually like this review, so yay.

most viewed *new* posts of 2022

My discussion on Would You Still Create Content If No One Was Reading? was kind of nerve-wracking to post. I think it took me a couple of months to actually click publish. I was worried it would come across as arrogant or ungrateful. It was a lovely feeling to see the response from people and all the different opinions. Thank you if you commented on it.

Discussions Ideas For Book Bloggers was meant to be a helpful post, so I am happy it did well. I’d love to see any discussion inspired by it!

My Quarterly Wrap-Ups replaced monthly wrap-ups, and I find them a lot easier. Wrap-ups take time to do and you can’t prepare them before time as they require the month’s content which was my biggest issue with them. Also, as I only post weekly, monthly wrap-ups would become nearly a quarter of my content, and I prefer making other content. All this to say, I hope the quarterly updates work well for you too.

my favourite posts of the year

Reasons To Read The Green Bone Saga is literally my favourite post I’ve ever done. I rarely write a review and feel satisfied that I have gotten all my thoughts across, but this one I did! I hope it persuaded people to pick up the books as well because I LOVE them.

My Guide To Fantasy Worldbuilding was another highlight. I have been planning my world for a while (too long) and this question guide really helped me. It was the fourth most viewed new post last year, so I hope it did help someone.

Reading Dark Academia Books was the first post where I had a set of books that I wanted to read by a certain date. Therefore, I had to do more prep for it than typical blog posts, but I enjoyed the different experience. Also, I felt like I expressed my thoughts honestly without apologising for them. I don’t like putting books down, but I was happy at my ability to pinpoint why here.

highlights of the nook 🌻

I am so grateful for Beth posting on the blog as I really love her content. It is so fun and I look forward to reading them, her writing voice is *chef’s kiss*!

What’s Next On The Blog?

It will probably take the same format as 2022, hopefully weekly but it might be a little inconsistent at times and I’ll allow it.

In terms of content, I’d like to prioritise three of my “features”; flipping through fantasy, the wailing writer and movie nights. Plus, I have a lot of random book post ideas. Plenty of content, but not enough time! Please let me know anything, in particular, you would love to see this year and I will add it to the list that I already claimed is too large. Hey, why not make it bigger?

Do you keep stats for your reading? Was last year’s stats what you expected them to be? What was your busiest reading month and why do you think it was?

How far in advance do you plan your blogging content? What would you like to see on my blog this year?

  1. I’m always a sucker for these graph-filled wrap-up posts, so obviously, I ADORED this, Sophie!!! 🤗🥰🤗 Overly nosy me finds it beyond satisfying to get mathy info on other people’s reading habits – particularly when they are similar to mine! Fantasy was also – big suprise 😂 – my most-read genre of the year, and a lot of my other graphs look similar, too. (I’ll be posting my yearly wrap-up in two weeks, should you want to compare in more detail 😉)

It was also so interesting to see which of your posts were most popular! The one about whether blogging would be worth it if no one was reading your content was one of my personal favorites, so I’m happy to hear it was so well received 😊 Honestly, I don’t have any suggestions for what else I would like to see – just keep posting the amazingly creative content that you are! 💙

    1. Yay, I am glad you are a graph enthusiast as well! Thank you sooo much 💕💕
haha it is interesting to see other’s reading habits. SNAP– well fantasy is amazing so we both must have great taste! 😂
I am definitely excited to see your yearly wrap-up and see all your pretty graphs!

I do find it interesting to look at what posts have been the most popular, mostly because I never predict it correctly. It is very humbling 😂
Thank you sooooo very much for liking my “if no one was reading” post. I still remember your comment 💖
Aw… 🥺 thank you so much, it means a lot (like, A LOT) ❤️

  2. SOPHIE THE GRAPHS!!!!!! THEYRE STUNNING?? honestly one of the many reasons blogging makes the new year something to look forward to 😭😤 I LOVE LOOKING AT BOOKISH STATS THEYRE FABULOUS?? Also this post. LOOK I NEED TO GO READ ALL OF YOUR FAVORITE + MOST VIEWED + ETC POSTS because turns out I’ve only read a smol little couple of them?? THIS MUST CHANGE. Am also with you on reading more horror though ITS SUCH A FASCINATING GENRE?? Must read more. do you have any specific books planned?? 👀 (THIS IS ME SILENTLY DISGUISING THE FACT THAT IM DESPERATE FOR RECS DONT MIND ME)

I can’t wait for all the content you have planned for 2023 AND SHALL BASICALLY HAUNT MY READER FOR THOSE BOOK-POST-IDEAS TURNED-POSTS BECAUSE YOUR PLANS ARE ALWAYS GENIUS. also. You don’t exactly have to do this if you don’t want to OBVIOUSLY but I’d LOVE to see more of your writing-related content!!!!!!! (THE OLD STORY IDEAS + THEIR CANVA MADE COVERS POST YOU SHATED REMAINS ONE OF MY FAVORITES TILL DATE)

    1. AHH THANK YOU!! 💜💜 There is something so satisfying about graphs!! I agree, I love the yearly review posts for blogging and I look forward to it every year. I am glad I am not alone!!
thank youuuuu!! aw.. that’s so sweet, but no pressure!
oohh we both need to explore more horror then. I do feel like it is a fascinating genre to explore– the emotions and suspense. Plus, I love a good twist! I don’t have any books planned necessarily, I might look what my library has. But The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell is meant to be creepy so I’m intrigued. I’d love to check out some of T. Kingfisher’s works too (the twisted ones, I believe) and Dreams of the Dying is supposed to be a fantasy horror book I believe so I am very curious about that one!!

aw…. Anoushka, you’re the best!! 😭💞 you’re gonna make me cry!! But thank youuuu for all your support and kind words, please haunt away and I shall haunt your posts in return!
I definitely want to do more writing posts in the future… like lots if possible (as should you 😉). I think those canva book covers will be the peak of my attempts at creativity though (and I can’t believe you still remember them 🥹) I am definitely crying now! 💗💗
I can’t wait for all your content in 2023 too!!!

  3. I shall always yell about stats and I’m obsessed with your pink ones, and especially your section under blogging highlights. Might steal that next year. Also strive to get your paperback number because mine was ashamedly low haha

    1. Stats are sooo fun!! Everyone needs to understand this 😂😂 thank you soo much (pink everything, why not?!)
Ahh.. I would love to see your blogging highlights for the year. It is always a very interesting one to do!
oohh hope you manage to increase your number of paperbacks this year then. I believe in you! 💖

  4. I’m surprised February was your joint highest book month as its the shortest of the year. I guess with graphic novels making up a third of it that makes sense though. I’m glad you got to read mostly adult like you wanted to, hopefully it led to lots of new favourites for you.

Ooh good luck getting your physical tbr down. If it’s just under 30 then I truly believe you can do it. I know mine is impossible, especially when I take my ebooks into account too 🙈 but I do hope it’ll seem more under control by 2024 😅 I’m glad you enjoyed audio books. I don’t think I listened to any last year. Sometime I really will have to try them out though. Especially as they may allow me to read a little more around my headaches.

I do think thrillers can be very hit & miss to be fair. I adore them in general but when ones let you down its generally pretty badly as it usually means the outcome was the issue. I want to read more horror too. Especially gothic based ones.

Ooh well done on posting so much. And on all of the views. That’s fantastic. Although you absolutely deserve all of them. I think maybe the decline in comments could also be due to some disappearing over lockdown? I could be wrong but even with my absence I’ve spotted a few people we both interacted with seem to have stopped blogging.

Yay I’ll finally be able to read your Ember post soon-ish!! I’ve got four more books to go then I’ll be starting on the Quartet so 8 more to go before I’ll read it. Will be nice to do so whilst my own opinions are fresh in my mind.

I loved your Bone Saga Post & can’t wait to read the Evelyn Hugo one once I’ve finally read that book. Fingers crossed it’ll be this year. I look forward to reading your Dark academia post too, I just really want to read a couple of the books before reading anyone else’s opinions on them. Plus it’ll be nice to let you know what I thought of them in return too.

And I look forward to catching up on Beth’s content too. How have I not read the vampire one yet?? Or the one about your favourites. I’m sure I have both saved in my email & will hopefully get to them soon.

I look forward to all of your 2023 content. I hope 2023 ends up being a wonderful reading & blogging year for you. And naturally a fantastic year in general as well.

    1. True it is the shortest but I must have been in a reading mood. The graphics novels definitely helped and I think I actually blogged less as well. That probably gave me more free time 🤔
Thank you, I have been enjoying the adult books a lot 🥰

Thank you, it feels managable to finish my physical TBR but we shall see. I am not the quickest reader and don’t want to rush them, but fingers crossed!
Aw… ebooks are so handy and take up less space. I hope you get to read a fair few this year!
Thank you, so handy for certain tasks and I tend to try new stuff out via them which I like. I hope audiobooks work out for you, especially with the headaches. ☺️

Yeah, when a thriller ending lets you down it overshadows everything else because of its large impact. But, when done well, worth the risk!
Hopefully we both get to some more horror. Gothic ones sound great 🦇

Thank youuuu so much ❤️ aw.. that’s so sweet, thank you, thank you 🥰 your comments always give me the biggest smile!
A decline in comments has been a pattern across blogs I think, and I do think many bloggers I used to talk with no longer blog. It must definitely have an impact! Lockdown could be a cause for sure!

Aw.. I can’t wait for you to read Ember! It will be interesting to hear your thoughts. There seems to be a pattern of readers loving the first two or the last two most. Let’s see what side you have, if any!

      Thank youuu 🥺💚
I will like to talk about the dark academia books once you’ve read them too. My opinions often differed from general consensus so I am curious for what you shall think ☺️

Aw… thank you so much for reading Beth’s posts! 💛 I love that she does them 🥰 haha the vampire one is full of vampires I assure you! She went back to her Twilight days!

Thank you so very much for all your support!! It is so lovely and kind 💜🥰 I hope you have an all-round wonderful 2023 as well!

      1. Yeah true, mood can make a major difference. As can how busy you are with other things.
        That’s wonderful ❤️❤️

Yes rushing is never a great idea as it can sometimes become more about finishing a book than enjoying it. I hope you end up loving whatever you read this year.

Yes they’re definitely space savers. And thank you ❤️❤️ I’m glad you find them good for trying our new things.

Yes especially as they’re generally about the big reveal.
        🤞🤞

Aww I’m glad to hear it ❤️❤️ and it’s a shame as people vanish so suddenly. Hopefully they’re all okay.

Ooh really? I know I saw that someone found the finale a letdown but didn’t realise it seemed to be a 50/50 split for people.

I look forward to doing so. Oh 😅 well I really look forward to reading it in full. I know when I looked at the notification I spotted a few books from my tbr though.

It’s fine, I love reading your posts. ❤️❤️ and thank you. I can’t believe we’re already nearing the end of January!!

        1. Definitely!! I would love to make more time for reading though!

Exactly, it is counting down the pages until the end instead of taking them in!
Thank you, I hope you do too ❤️

Yes, what kindle do you have?? (if a kindle) I think I want to buy one in the next couple of years.

          Definitely!!

          ❤️💜❤️
I know, you do wonder what they are up to. I hope they are all okay too!

It did from what I saw be 50/50 but I’m sure there are lots of opinions I haven’t seen as well. Your opinions will have to be the deciding one 😂

Thank you 🥰 haha oohh I hope you get to read those vampire books soon!!

Thank youuuu ❤️❤️ I know, time flies!!

…. and thank you, I look forward to your dark academia thoughts 🥰🖤

          1. Me too. What I really want to do is stop convincing myself between books that I won’t get into the next one 🙈

So true & thank you ❤️❤️

Umm an old one? 😂🙈 I can’t remember what one it is but I don’t think they sell it anymore. I think its basically the one that came before the HD ones came out. I’m not sure of exact models atm but personally I prefer the colour ones to paperwhite. Oh I just looked & realised they’ve changed more than I realised, I didn’t realise there even was an Oasis or Scribe??? Sorry I’m not more help. Although there is a comparison page for all the current makes ive seen on amazon.

Hopefully. 🤞🤞 its hard to find out though if they’re not using their blogs.

Oh no 🙈 way too much pressure 😂😂 I haven’t really seen any reviews tbh as I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers.

            Thank you ❤️❤️

I look forward to discussing them all with you. ❤️❤️

            1. Aw… That does seem like a mental block! Hope you can push through it!!

Oh right, you’ve had it for a while then 😂 aw… no need to be sorry at all, I was just curious as I know next to nothing about kindles. I will definitely look into the comparison page to see what best fits for me. I would love to be able to get my library app on there!
I didn’t realise there were so many ones either– oasis, scribe, what?!? 🤣 The colours ones sound nicer to look at for sure. Thank you ❤️

I know!! Some use insta still but I’m not sure 🤔

That makes sense especially in sequel reviews, they naturally spoil earlier books I find!

              ❤️❤️❤️

              1. Thank you.

Yeah I need to get a new one soon tbh 😅 I got mine back when they had them in Waterstones so I could try the different ones out in store. I’ve got the app for mine on my one so I’d imagine you could on most. And I honestly don’t know what those are either. Scribe sounded like it was because you could draw on it. It was a lot more expensive too. I do think having a colour screen is nice though for covers.

                Ah right.

Yes keeping those spoiler free can be challenging.

                1. Ohh hope you get a new one then! Maybe a birthday idea for the year… or treat yourself 😆
I remember them in waterstones as well! That was handy actually. oohh that’s good to know, thank you ❤
Well Scribe is fancy. I can't imagine wanting to draw on it but how snazzy!
Defintely nice to see the colours on the covers!

                  1. Thank you. Yes maybe. I’m still happy with it tbh but I’m not convinced it won’t wear out soon.

I liked them being there as you could see them in person for comparison. Plus they sold covers.
Yeah idk if it’s more for other things than just reading??
Definitely. I prefer the display for reading on the colour ones too.
