Doing Blogmas: The Ideas, The Book Tags, The Merriment!!

I will be away for 2 weeks from 21st September and return on the 7th October but I have scheduled these posts so sorry for the lack of activity and late responses to comments but as always thank you for the support and I look forward to catching up with you all when I come back.

Hey everybody!!

So this is an announcement post where I going to announce that….

“I AM DOING BLOGMAS THIS YEAR, which means a post every day from December the first on the countdown to Christmas”

Ok now that is out of the way, I can get into the post!!

I have decided to do blogmas this year because…

  1. I do love and celebrate Christmas
  2. I have always wanted to participate and see what it is like to post every day
  3. I thought it would be a fun challenge to post so many posts

You might be thinking…. ‘why am I announcing it so early? It’s September.’

Well in this post I am going to be including what I am posting for blogmas, then some different book tags you can do and some tips for preparing which will hopefully be useful to some people. I think it is most useful before December starts if people want advice or to plan their posts beforehand so that was my thinking.

I know not everyone celebrates Christmas and I hope me posting every day for Christmas time isn’t too annoying but not every post is about Christmas and it is more to spread happiness and my love of books than anything else!!

I am a book blogger but I am not restricting myself to only talking about books. There are some Christmas, film and lifestyle posts but quite a few are bookish and I am excited to share all these posts with you.

You will notice some of mine are more ‘end of year’ than Christmas so I may be posting them too early but in the new year I like to start the year instead of reflecting if you know what I mean. Just personal preference so if you were wondering why I have included those posts that is why.
  1. November Wrap-Up (classic)
  2. Bookish Christmas Gift Guide
  3. Naughty or Nice Book Tag
  4. Favourite Christmas Songs
  5. What I Love About Winter
  6. How Being A Book Blogger Has Changed My Reading?
  7. Things I Don’t Like About Certain Christmas Movies
  8. All I Want For Christmas Book Tag
  9. Design Your Own Chocolate Box
  10. Blog Posts: The Past, The Present and The Future
  11. The Festive Christmas Book Tag
  12. A Letter To Santa
  13. 2020 Anticipated Book Releases
  14. Best Films of 2019
  15. 2019 Book Releases I’ve Read
  16. 2020 Anticipated Film and TV Releases
  17. Winter is Here Tag: Six Of Crows Edition
  18. Music of 2019
  19. Comparing Harry Potter Book Covers
  20. Best Books of 2019
  21. My 2020 TBR
  22. How To Improve Next Year
  23. The Smashing and Dashing Character Awards
  24. Me and Christmas

If you want more ideas check out a post by Jenn from Jenniely which has lots of blogmas ideas and keywords to include. It is really helpful and well presented.

This is a list of Book Tags that are festive themed. If you are looking for inspiration you can check them out! (I am doing some of them but not all!!)

  1. Prepare early. If you are going to write 24 posts you want to spread them out and if you do say 6 posts a month up until December then the rest in December you are organised and have all your posts ready and scheduled making it less stressful for you.
  2. This hasn’t happened to me but if you schedule a post sometimes WordPress can delete it so I copy my post and save it to a word document so if it happens to be deleted I will still have my post. I feel much more comfortable having a backup.
  3. When planning your posts think about time of the month. For example gift guides are best early on in the month so people can plan gifts whilst a post about the past year is best later on in the month.
  4. Use the same graphic for each post. This is me being lazy but being lazy can be useful so I am using the same graphic on each blog post instead of making 24 unique graphics but that is up to you.
  5.  Use keywords to help get more traffic if that is something you are interested in (see Jenniely’s post that I linked earlier).
  6. Write what you want to write and enjoy it. As much as you have an audience that you cater to, you should always write what you are passionate about.
  7. Create a ‘to-do’ list that suits you. For example, I write down the post I want to do then have a checklist for drafted, edited and scheduled so I have a clear show of my progress. If you need help, Trello is a really good app to help with organisation.
  8. Don’t expect everyone to engage on every post. For some people it is a busy time of year and even if it wasn’t 24 posts consecutively is a lot so people aren’t going to comment/read every post. I don’t think the individual posts are going to get the highest view. That’s not why I am doing it but I think it is good to go in with realist expectations.

Honestly I think the best thing you can do is prepare early and try not to get stressed with the intense work load of making 24 posts or the process of posting them. Have breaks, leave a day out, breathe. Even though you are posting a lot, you still have to put yourself first and it isn’t bad to stop if it feels too much for you. It is up to you.

If you are doing blogmas this year, I wish you the best of luck!!

Are you doing blogmas this year? Have you ever done blogmas? Can you share any words of wisdom?
Have far in advance do you plan your posts?

  1. Oh, it’s such a fantastic idea to do a blogmas post months in advance so everyone can prepare a bit better! 👍 I’m planning on doing Christmas themed posts in December, but I won’t be able to do them every day. Nevertheless, thank you so much for all the great topic ideas and festive book Tags! 🥰

    1. Yes I wouldn’t be able to do it all in one month so I am relying on doing it in advance so I thought it might be helpful to others 😂
Yay I look forward to your Christmas themed posts. I do thinking do them everyday is very intimidating but I thought I’d give it a go 😂
You’re welcome, I’m glad this could be helpful to you 💕

Yes if I didn’t prepare early I don’t think I would ever do 24 posts 😂 and it gives you more time to blog hop I think 😊
You’re welcome I’m glad it could be helpful 💛

  3. I hope you have a great time during blogmas! I think it gives bloggers great exposure and really pushes you to create a great amount of content 🙂 Also, thanks for including one of my tags. It was originally for writers to talk about their characters, but I am sure it can be adapted for non-writers as well.

    1. Thank you I’m excited to participate in blogmas!! I agree it is great to see lots of different bloggers doing different posts and I love the spirit at this time of year ! I’m excited to create all the posts!!
I absolutely love your tag and think it is so unique and creative I had to include it. I was originally going to do it for my WIP but I’m not ready to share that yet so I decided to adapt it but maybe next year I can do it for my writing!! 💛

      1. Oh, I am one of the very few people who ALWAYS talks about her WIPs even though I probably shouldn’t. Some of my readers are still waiting on chapter updates that I just can’t seem to deliver, so I definitely get that you are tweaking it 🙂 no rush at all, just talk about it when you are ready.

  4. I didn’t actually realize Blogmas was a thing although I was planning to do a few themed posts over that time of year. This is so wonderful for ideas and to find different tags for that time of year so thank you so much!! And I do try to get my posts prepared early although with some, like anticipated releases, I double check releases dates again nearer the time as they do tend to change. I can’t wait to see all of your festive posts though!!

    1. I originally saw it on YouTube as vlogmas and then when blogging I saw it and thought it looked like such a fun challenge!!
Yes it is a great way to have new post ideas to make them festive and I think it such a positive thing to do. I’m glad my post could help with tags and ideas as that is what I wanted 💕
Yes I like to plan ahead or else I would never know when I am posting 😂!! I think I will check releases dates nearer the time too just to make sure!!
Thank you, I can’t wait to see your festive posts as well!! 😊

      1. It does look fun 😊 I’m probably going to try out a few of the tags that you’ve mentioned. Although I don’t think I’ll end up doing every day like you. Who knows though. Good luck with it ❤️❤️
Yes planning ahead definitely makes things easier. Especially if you’re going to be busy which at that time of year you easily can be.
        Thank you (:

Thank you so much, I will probably need the luck ❤

  5. sophie, i love this idea! i’ll definitely consider it and i’m glad for all the inspiration this post brought. most of my content probably won’t be christmas-related, though.
i don’t super celebrate christmas, at least not like some families do. even though my family gathers and we eat together, we never really buy presents for each other or decorate the house. at least, we haven’t done that since i was 10, hahah.
it’s definitely one of my least favorite times of the year, but i still think doing blogmas can be fun to keep me on a positive mood, since i’ll have to challenge myself to write so many posts and not fall into the rabbit whole of self pity like i do almost every year around this time, lol.
i’ll definitely be looking forward to your post on favorite christmas songs, though, because as a grinch, i obviously hate christmas but LOVE christmas songs, hahah.
i also had no idea that wordpress can delete posts when you schedule them, so thanks for the heads up! i’ll be saving a backup for every single one of my posts now!
once again, thanks for the tips! and good luck on your blogmas!

    1. I thought it was a really good idea too and I’ve seen it in the past and always wanted to participate so I’m excited !!
I’m glad I could provide some inspiration and I don’t think they have to be festive any way, just whatever you want to post!! 💛
We all have different ways to celebrate Christmas if you do celebrate it. For my family it is probably the biggest celebration of the year so I find it special but it’s not for everyone!! (Even though the stores already have lots of Christmas stuff out which feels way too early haha 😂)
I think blogmas can have a positive effect as it gives you something to do and hopefully enjoy!! I’m excited to try it out!! And I really do hope it makes you feel better if you decide to do it!!
Yay I’m glad you will like my Christmas song posts– I do like a good Christmas song!! 😂 I’m intrigued to see which ones you like as well 😊
I can be a bit back up mad but I’ve seen someone tweet about it and it’s stuck in my head so I always back up now as it would be awful if a post deleted and it only takes a few seconds so I always do it now even though I don’t think it is that common thankfully!! 😊
You’re welcome and thank you so much– if you decide to do this or more posts in December I wish you best of luck as well 💕

  7. Oh Sophie, you’re the BEST for listing all the festive memes! I’m always slow on finding seasonal memes, and it’s usually after I’ve seen a bunch of bloggers post about them. Now I’ll be able to do some early prepping. Thank you, thank you!! ❤️ Also, I’m SUPER excited to read all your posts. “A Letter To Santa” and “Design Your Own Chocolate Box” sounds especially interesting?? Is the second one going to be about actual chocolates? If so, I’m ALL FOR IT. 😀

    1. Yay thank you and I’m so glad this could be helpful to you!! I hoped it would be as I always find it handy to have a list of tags that I could do for a certain season/topic!! Early preparation is great!! You’re so welcome!! ❤
Aw.. thank you so much Kathy!! I'm excited for the chocolate one too and yes it does include lots of chocolate because I'm addicted to it (I need help 😂)
Thank you for your super sweet comment!! ❤
