June Wrap-Up | Some Great Books And I Accidentally Watched A Whole TV Show

Hello everyone!!

June is officially over which is mildly concerning but I’m excited for July and I’m excited to talk about June with you all. I hope you had a great month.

Tell me something good about your month in the comments πŸ™‚

Books

20190626_144523_0000.png

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab//⭐⭐⭐// This was such a fun read and I read this on my way to Edinburgh and it is set in Edinburgh so it was perfect (this was planned). It made me really excited as the city was described andΒ I knew I was going to be there soon. I also liked that it mentioned a bit of history of Edinburgh. Another thing I enjoyed was the main character Cassidy trying ‘Fish and Chips’ as it is a British thing so it was funny seeing someone try it for the first time. This isn’t a usual book I would go for it but it was what I expected it to be and it was a fun, easy read. Plus it has Harry Potter and Superhero references which I did adore.Β You can see my full mini-review on goodreads here.

Release by Patrick Ness//⭐⭐⭐⭐// I really enjoyed this book. The first Patrick Ness book that I read I wasn’t a big fan of so I was slightly unsure going in. But I really liked this story and I loved it being set on one day. It is a raw, emotional book that is written beautifully. Adam’s story was great and very honest as you got to see all the details of his life. It touches on being gay with very religious parents that aren’t open to it so it deals with some very real problems and I thought it was delivered well. There was a magical realism side which I didn’t get why it was there. It was written well and easy to read but I thought it was a bit unnecessary personally. Still a great book though.Β  You can see my full review (and trigger warnings) on goodreads here.

The Written by Ben Galley//⭐⭐⭐// I posted a review for this on my blog here. This was a fantasy book where we follow Fardan who is trying to stop a war in his country. It is a interesting world which features some amazing dragons and interesting magick. Plus it features a cat which I am still very excited about. I think this was a really good debut book from the author and had many good elements in it.

Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets To The Universe by Benjamin Alire SΓ‘enz//⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐//This is definitely one of my favourite books of the year and well EVER. It was so beautiful. I loved the story, the writing, the characters. Just ARRGGHHH. I don’t have the words *every book reviewers problem*!! Book review should be coming soon where I will be screaming about it again!!

Films/TV

How To Get Away With Murder Season 3//I am finally catching up with this show– I like the way this is filmed, it will definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. It can be quite dark and it is complex but it is interesting to watch. Also all the characters are complex and diverse which is wonderful. This is an intense show but I do enjoy watching it.

Rocketman//TARON EGERTON SANG BRILLIANTLY IN THIS MOVIE. I do love musical biopicsΒ (give me more) and I thought this was a really good one. I like the way it told the story and it did have sad parts but overall it was an inspiring movie which captured the story well and was very cinematic.Β IΒ do reallyΒ recommend checking it out.Β

Community//OopsΒ I accidentally watched it all//You know when you start a show and then you can’t be productive until you have finished it, this is what I did with this show. I’ve watched it all!! It is easy to watch and has some quirky ideas but I enjoyed watching it. I put it on in the background and I think it has some great jokes and fun characters. I am a fan of it!

Sex And The City//A classic show that I have never watched but I have nowΒ finished season 2. I find it really enjoyable and I like how the main four interact with each other and navigate situations. As much as it is a fun show, it also talks about real issues which I think it why it was so popular. I am really enjoying it actually, I am quite surprised. Question: if you’ve watched it, do you like Mr. Big?? (no spoilers please as I’m only on season 2)

Blog hopping

  • Mandy @ Book Princess Reviews posted a review for Technically, You Started It by Lana Wood Johnson which is a book told solely in text format (sounds interesting and amazing). I loved this review and it sounds like a cute book which is a quick, fun read.

Life

My most exciting thing is that I went to Scotland earlier in the month (it was just for a week but it felt like I was gone for a month) andΒ it was GREAT. Pictures from my trip are on my Instagram travel highlight. Here are a few points from my journey.

  • I brought sunglasses with me, SO not necessary.
  • Great food places: The Granary (on the shore), Mimi’s (on the shore), Cafe Edinburgh (on the Royal Mile)
  • The Castle is amazing. Although we managed to walk past Mons Meg (a massive canon) and had to walk back around to find it, where it was right in out face. How did we miss it?!!? Also it was fun to learn some more history about Scotland.
  • It was great to hear some Scottish accents!! I love the accent so much
  • Arthur’s seat. We went up when it was very misty meaning I got completely wet and we couldn’t really see anything. But I like walking so it was good.
  • The tour bus, I highly recommend. You get to see lots of the city and the ticket lasts for a day where you can hop on and off.

wp-1605636881060.pngThat’s all folks!!

Thank you so much for reading and I wish you an amazing July!!

  5. I felt that June was super productive, and my favourite read would have to be Please Send Help! I too watched a whole TV show (actually 2, but there is only one season of both) and I lost any idea of what the word productivity means. Plus I am rererewatching the 100! Amazing post!

  6. That’s so cool about Scotland! And I haven’t found a show to really hook me in from beginning to end. I usually watch parts of it. Then months or years pass and I go back to it, and so on. Congrats on the views!

  8. Thank you so much for mentioning me, it means so much to me. Congratulations on all of the followers and likes too; you definitely deserve them all! πŸ’–πŸ’–
I really want to read City Of Ghosts sometime! And I also want to watch How To Get Away With Murder as it sounds quite intriguing and I’ve heard a lot of good things. I loved Rocketman! There have been some absolutely fantastic musicals out over the last few years.
A good thing about June for me was definitely getting to see Matilda: The Musical! And I definitely do the same with shows at times. I think every time that a new series of The Originals was added to Netflix I ended up binge watching it and getting hardly anything else done. Also with Killing Eve but that isn’t as bad since the series are fairly short :L

    1. Aw.. of course. I really enjoyed the post and I haven’t seen anyone talk about it before!! πŸ™‚ Thank you so much– that’s so sweet. I can’t believe it!! Thank you for all the support!! ❀
Yes it was a really nice read and nice for me to try something different. I definitely enjoyed the Edinburgh setting!!
You should watch How To Get Away With Murder– I love the way it is filmed– so clever and intrigued. But the episodes always end on a cliffhanger I will warn you πŸ˜‚!!
Rocketman was so good– and you are right they has been lots of good musical recently!!
Ah.. the musical sounds so good. I'm glad you had a nice time!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one– shows are so addictive!! I still need to watch Killing Eve– I'm glad it only short so it won't take up too much of my time either!! πŸ˜‚

      1. Thanks again πŸ˜€ Oh really? That’s interesting. Its the truth, you do deserve all of the likes and follows that you’ve gained. Thanks for yours too.
That’s good to know and yes the setting sounds interesting, I haven’t read much – possibly anything? – set there before.
I do like the sound of it and have heard good things. I’ll hopefully start watching it soon (: maybe it’ll be the next thing I watch once I’ve finished re-watching Downton πŸ˜€ although I’ll probably end up addicted if it has a lot of cliffhangers :L
Yes I agree, it was amazing. I loved Bohemian Rhapsody too.
Thank you, I really did πŸ˜€
I know you’ve watched it now and I’m glad you enjoyed it (:

I don’t think I have read anything else in Edinburgh as well so it was great for that!!
Ah yay!! I hope you enjoy it and I think each season gets better as well! That is the problem with cliffhangers you get way too addicted πŸ˜‚
          Yes that’s another great one!!
Yes it was really good and different from things that I’ve watched before 😊

          1. Thanksn πŸ˜€ It’s true (:
I’ve heard of one or two books set there but can’t remember any that I’ve actually got around to reading.
Omg if that’s true, and the first season is addictive, I’ll be absolutely glued to it by the third one :L

  9. first of all ARISTOTLE AND DANTE IS SO. GOOD. I already said that, but I just loved it. 10 blue hearts out of 10. have your read “the inexplicable logic of my life” by the same author? I personally loved it equally. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

I really want to read “release” by patrick ness too, because I think he’s such a talented author. I remember reading somewhere that patrick ness’s books are very controversial because his books are more of an acquired taste and don’t fit right with everybody, like a love-hate relationship. I personally loveee his writing. “the rest of us just live here” was such a hilarious read, and talked about the kids who weren’t heroes/chosen ones, and their perspective.

    CONGRATS ON 300 FOLLOWERS, SOPHIE!

    1. It is amazing, right?!??! I could literally reread it straight away!! I am in love!!! Definitely 10 blue hearts!!! πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™!! No I haven’t but I am on a mission to read all of his books now!!!! I will have to start with that one!!

Release was really good– I highly advise reading it!! I love his writing in it and the story he told!! I’ve actually read The Rest Of Us Just Live Here and I did enjoy it but I think I went in with the wrong expectations for it which made me slightly disappointed but I still thought he wrote very well!! I do want to try more of his books out now as I definitely think I am a fan of his now!!!

Thank you so much!!! 😭<3 I can't believe it!! ❀
