Crystal’s Questions

WHY IS YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK/SERIES, YOUR FAVOURITE?

CHARACTERS. C.H.A.R.A.C.T.E.R.S are a big thing for me. I love it when they’re flawed and have an interesting past. I adore it when the characters are in a ‘found family’ so they all know each other and what pushes them etc. so you get to see different sides to the same characters. When I’ve fallen for these characters, I like them to go through horrible experiences really. I like the story to push on their flaws and put them in situations they don’t feel like they can handle. I think it makes a great read. Sorry characters, I do love you though.wp-1599692036426.png

IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE?

Iceland because of waterfalls (I will go chasing waterfalls!!!). It looks like an amazing country and I would love to go one day.

Related imagewp-1599692036440.png

IF YOU COULD MEET TWO PEOPLE, ONE ALIVE AND ONE DECEASED, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?

Ok, this is a really hard question. Alive would be Maggie Stiefvater because I think it would be really interesting to talk to a published author and I really loved her writing and ‘The Raven Cycle’ so I would get to talk about that with her (she is probably fed up about talking about it but maybe if I bake cookies for her).

For the deceased, it would be someone in my family bloodline from years ago, maybe the Victorian era or the Tudor era. To see what they were like and if they were similar to me at all (or anyone else in my family). I could get to know some of my heritage; What jobs did we do? Were we happy? Give me all the gossip. Plus, it would be an interesting and rare insight into history.wp-1599692036426.png

WHY DID YOU START BLOGGING?

I started blogging so I could have a creative outlet to write on because I felt like I had something to say. Blogging has definitely evolved for me since I started. I love being part of the community and talking about books with everyone.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE SONGS AT THIS MOMENT?

  • ‘To Be Human’ by Marina
  • ‘Soft To Be Strong’ by Marina
  • ‘Standing Outside The Fire’ by Garth Brooks
  • ‘Fire on Fire’ by Sam Smith

Sophie’s Questions

TEA OR COFFEE?

COFFEE (particularly iced, I am drinking one at the moment). I love coffee so much!!wp-1599692036426.png

DOGS OR CATS? (OR ANOTHER PET SPECIES?)

How can I choose?!?!? I love my dog soooo much!! But… when I am older I see myself having cats over dogs so cats, I guess!! (sorry Layla (my dog))

Cat Fails GIFs - Find & Share on GIPHYwp-1599692036440.png

FAVOURITE PLACE YOU’VE TRAVELLED TO?

The Lake District, UK. And if you are thinking it is lots of walkers, sheep and coffee shops, you are on the right lines. It is that and more. It is beautiful and rainy and green and peaceful. I have a lot of good memories there. I used to go with my family every year for a while and it was really good family time so it means a lot to me. I basically had a scone every day there so big yay!!wp-1599692036426.png

FAVOURITE BOOK ABOUT A COUNTRY OTHER THAN THE ONE THAT YOU’VE LIVED IN?

Warcross by Marie Lu takes place in Japan for most of the book and I really enjoyed the setting. I like learning a bit more about the culture when we visit Hideo’s family and how it was described. Plus, it is a good book. I wrote a review here if you want to see it.wp-1599692036440.png

FAVOURITE BOOK THAT TAKES PLACE IN A COUNTRY THAT YOU LIVE IN RIGHT NOW?

Harry Potter is based in the UK and it is a classic which I really enjoyed. I know it is not realistic UK all the time but it is still the UK. I recently went to Edinburgh where J K Rowling got some of her inspiration from and I loved all of it.

HAVE YOU TRAVELLED SOMEWHERE JUST BECAUSE YOU’VE READ ABOUT IT?

No, not really. I get most of my inspiration to travel from Pinterest or people’s recommendations but I haven’t read that many travel books, most of my books are fantasy so it can be hard to travel to those places, haha.wp-1599692036440.png

IF YOU HAD ALL THE TIME AND MONEY IN THE WORLD AND YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO WORK ANOTHER DAY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Travel!!

Image result for travel gifwp-1599692036426.png

IF YOU FIND $100 ON THE GROUND AND CAN’T FIND THE PERSON WHO LOST IT, WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH THE MONEY?

I would look to see if anyone had tweeted that they’ve dropped $100 in the area. If there is a shop or something nearby I might hand it in there and ask them to return it if someone asks and they could put a notice in the window. If not I might leave it and hope they come back for it. I don’t think I could take it away though, I would feel too guilty.wp-1599692036440.png

MOOD READER OR NON-MOOD READER?

I am tempted to say both because in my head I will plan what I am reading. I usually try to read the stuff I’ve had the longest first but if I am in the mood for a certain book I will reach for it. So, I plan it but I am very flexible within my plan to suit my mood if that makes sense.wp-1599692036426.png

IF YOU HAVE TO LOSE ONE SENSE OF YOUR CHOICE (SIGHT, SOUND, TOUCH, TASTE, SMELL), WHICH WOULD YOU LOSE?

I would pick smell as the sense I would lose because I think sight, sound, touch and taste are really important and the ones I use the most. Obviously, I would miss the smell of coffee, books, perfume and candles but I think it is the better one to lose out of them all.wp-1599692036440.png

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO AS A HOBBY (OTHER THAN READING AND BLOGGING)?

I write (or think about writing), I draw, I eat (a lot), I watch TV and I want to start doing something active regularly but I don’t know what that will be yet but hopefully soon I will know.

  1. I’m so glad you done this! I’d love to go to Iceland as well. Also, I’m such an old cat lady already. Haha. Loved your answers.

  2. ZOMG THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR THE NOMINATION SOPHIE!! Plus I’m with you on the characters, I love found families soo soo so much. Probably because we get more attached with the book through them, plus I don’t mind if the plot isn’t that brilliant if it’s compensated by the nuanced relationship dynamics!

I’ve only read the first twoo books of The Raven Cycle! I’m anxious to finish it because a lot were disappointed w/ the last installment (?) but I would love to meet Maggie too and talk about all the occult stuff she’s probably into! The Lake District sounds like an interesting place and a perfect one for reading!

    1. You’re so welcome– you have a great blog and really deserve the award ❤ !! Yes found families are the best– I get so tangled up in their relationships and the dynamics are great!! Yes I think so!! Same I think a great found families can make me love the book either if it doesn't have a great plot!!
For me I think the last two books are my favourite out for the raven cycle series– I read them one after the other so they are slightly blurred together. But I think the last two were the best– I didn't love the first book but by the end I love the series. So I would recommend reading them based on my experience!! Yes I do think Maggie would have a lot of interesting things to say.
Yes I really like The Lake District and it is perfect for reading haha!! ❤

  4. Thank you so much for the nomination 💖💖 it means so, so much to me! I can’t wait to start filling this in and will hopefully get it posted sometime over the weekend.

I’d love to go to Iceland too; I always hear how nice it’s meant to be plus it would be amazing to see the Northern Lights! I do agree with you about waterfalls too though; I’ve seen a few in the UK and although they’re a lot smaller I find them so fascinating and beautiful so seeing the bigger ones would be absolutely amazing. I also really want to visit Paris, Rome and Venice (although with that last one I’m kind of worried about rats being in the water :L) Yay I love Marina 😀 and I agree with you about characters, they need to be good to make an interesting book. I don’t think I could choose between dogs & cats, it’s too hard /: especially as I have both and it’s like having to pick one or the other which just isn’t an option. My other hobbies are making puzzles (I have way too many of them), listening to music, watching films/tv/shows – although the last one least often as they’re pretty pricey -, dancing and sometimes baking (I usually enjoy it but haven’t done it much lately).

Thanks again for the nomination 💖

    1. Aww… you are so welcome!! You have a lovely blog and have been wonderful to chat to so you really deserve the award ❤ !! I can't wait to read your answers whenever you post them!! 🙂
Yes Iceland sounds beautiful!! And the Northern Lights would be SOOO incredible to see– definitely on my bucket list!! Waterfalls are amazing– I agree whenever I see them in UK I love watching them and think they are a beautiful feature. I hope you get to go one day!! Paris, Rome and Venice look like amazing cities will plenty of culture– it would be slightly concerning about the rats in the water but I imagine they would stay away from people but I don't know!!
      Yesss.. Marina is amazing!!
Yes I think characters are so important– they keep you interested in the story as you are invested in what happens to them and what they will do in situations.
Choosing between cats and dogs is really hard– they are both beautiful animals! And if you have both that would be even harder.
I love that you make puzzles— that is so cool. You have lots of nice hobbies– I like to bake too but I don't do it that much but whenever I do it, it is very enjoyable (especially the eating part)!!
      You're very welcome again!! ❤

      1. Aww, thank you so, so much ❤❤ I absolutely adore your blog and it’s been really great talking to you too!!! I’m hopefully posting it in a few minutes (:
Yes they so would be. I hope you get to see them one day. Yes they’re so wonderful although I think most of the ones that I’ve seen have been in the last few years :L Thank you 😀 Yes definitely, there’s so many reasons why I want to visit them! And I’d hope so too but I honestly don’t know. I guess I’d have to look into it although I really wouldn’t want to let something like that stop me going.
I really hope I can see her live one day.
Definitely, they make the story in a lot of way. It needs a good plot too but characters can control that a lot; after all they’re the ones doing the unexpected actions quite often. And it’s really important to have a character that you’re rooting for or against, it keeps you invested like you said.
        Yes they really are ❤❤
Thanks :L I don’t know why, I’ve just always been into them. Although I wish there were more of the fantasy art ones that I love. Yeah I don’t do it all that often lately but I agree about it being enjoyable, especially the eating part :L What sort of things do you like baking when you do?
        Thanks (:❤❤

        1. You’re welcome ❤❤ thank you very much, that’s lovely to hear 💕 Yay!! I can’t wait to go and read your post!!

Thank you, I hope so too!! Yes I don’t get to see waterfalls that much, only when a travel to specific places!!
Yes I am sure the cities would be beautiful. Yes I imagine if you look into it people will say it is ok. I understand feeling that way because spiders have always put me off going to Australia 😂
Me too– I would love to go!!
Yes exactly– I think good characters strengthen the plot and a good plot strength the characters so it is great when they work together. But characters are what you fall in love with first I find!!
I think puzzles can be fun– yes more fantasy art ones sounds super cool!!
Yes it is fun. I make things like cookies (there is this one recipe which I love), caramel shortbread, cakes like cherry or lemon. What do you bake when you get chance to do it??? 💛

          1. Its the truth 💕 Thank you 😀

Yes same, I’ve mostly seen them in the Lake District (you’re right, it has a surprising number of sheep yet not over many cows or anything :L) and then another around Devon.
From what I’ve seen definitely 😀 and you’re probably right. OMG me too! They sound awful there; not just massive but everywhere /: I don’t think I could go there :L
Hopefully we’ll both get to one day 😀
Yes that’s true; plus it’s such a let down when one’s amazing and the other isn’t. Yes that’s so true, there are so many characters that you end up growing fond.
I love making them 😀 Most of mine are by a handful of artists but they seem to keep making less not more. Besides one of them but they’re all on a website that I’ve never used :L
Oooh all things that sound wonderful and delicious 😀 I haven’t made cookies in years, I always say I will then never do /: Mostly cakes tbh. Most recently coffee and walnut, then before that a carrot cake. I’ve made quiches before too and really should again as I love homemade ones

            1. Ahh… Thank you 💛💛
Yes most waterfalls I have seen have been in the lake district or the peak districts (and yes it does a lot of sheep but I kind of love it)
Yes the spiders look horrendous– I would be very concerned about it!!
              Hopefully 😊
Yes it can be a let down when not everything is brilliant when it is so close to being great!!
Ahh.. that’s a shame that they are making less or you can’t get them!! 😞
Yes I like cookies– I use a recipe on the internet– if you search Tanya Burr’s best chocolate cookies they come up. They are lovely– a bit like a brownie mixed with a cookie! 😍
Very nice that all sounds lovely– coffee is so nice in a cake!! 😊

              1. I loved it there too 😀 there’s some really beautiful places and it was so interesting to visit. I did practically freeze on a boat trip whilst there though :L
Definitely. It makes me shudder to think about.
                So true!!
I know, it’s so frustrating. I have no idea why they discontinue so many of them.
Oooh thank you, I’ll have to try that recipe out sometime 😀 I think I recognize the name too but not entirely sure.
Yes I was surprised that I like it since I’m not always a fan of coffee but it’s lovely 😀

                  I know– such a shame!!
ahh.. it is very chocolately so if you like chocolate I recommend it! Yes Tanya Burr was a youtuber that I used to watch– quite a big one. They are great cookies!!
oh right!! I am sure it was delicious!! 🙂

  5. AH! Sophie! Thank you SO SO SO much for nominating me! And a huge congratulations to you—it is so well-deserved!

For your very first question about characters, I think you took the thoughts right out of my head and wrote them down! From a character’s flaws to the found family aspect, I 100% agree with you!

I love how often you mentioned traveling in these answers! I haven’t even so much so as left the country I live in, so I really do hope I get to explore more often soon. And a beautiful, rainy UK city sounds like a wonderful place to visit, ESPECIALLY if scones are so easily available. A definite plus.

I’m probably both a mood reader and a non-mood reader myself as well; I’m even at the point where I started two different books about a month and a half ago because I was in the mood for them then, but I haven’t picked them up since because I’m not in the mood for them now. 😲

Thank you so much again for the nomination, and I really loved this post! It was awesome to read! 💖

    1. You’re so welcome Lauren!! I love your blog so of course I had to nominate you!! ❤ and thank you so much, that's so kind! ❤ ❤
Haha (maybe I did get it from your thoughts 😉 ) but I'm glad you agree– great minds think alike so they say!! But characters are such an important part of the story and found families are just the best.
I did mention travelling a lot but I would love to travel so much more than I do right now!! Aw.. I hope you get to travel some more– it is so nice to experience different places I think. Yes I think the UK does have some really beautiful places and countryside. And of course scones are the highlight!! haha!!
Yay snap!! I think that is good to do it based on your mood because if you are not feeling it and have to force yourself than it can ruin the experience with the book which you really don't want!!
You're very welcome again and thank you again– it makes me so happy to hear!! ❤

Yes I really loved Warcross as well! So fast-paced and lots of action! I remember reading cover-to-cover in no time! Did you read Wildcard yet?
