Bookish Tattoo’s I Would Get

Hey everyone!!

I have a book blog and I like books. WHAT?!?!!? I know, we live in a mad, mad world!!

And if you get a tattoo you usually get it to do with something you like (unless you are drunk) and I like books enough that I would get a tattoo to do with them. So, cue an idea for a post!!

Now the likelihood of me getting a tattoo is actually slim because I am indecisive and I don’t really like needles (it’s very clinical and really quite weird to do to yourself if you really think about it).

But, I do like the look of tattoo’s and I like expressing yourself in a creative way so it was fun to imagine what designs I would like to get.

IDEA ONE: ‘There is some good in the world and it’s worth fighting for’

20190523_135116.jpg

Style: Typewriter font. Fine line art. Black ink.

Location: Underside of arm bicep (right or left). Not taking up whole space.

Where from? The Lord Of The Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien

Why? THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST QUOTES EVER said by Samwise Gamgee (the true hero of this series). I have taken out the ‘Mr. Frodo’ bit as I wanted it to be more general than directing it to Frodo. And I love the sword with flowers tattoo. Obviously it would look so much better than my drawing but you get the idea. I really like fine line art– it has a delicate look so that’s why I would go for that (even though it will fade faster etc.)

wp-1599692036426.png

IDEA TWO: ‘I am a big believer that if you are going to fail you might as well fail spectacularly.’

20190523_135157.jpgStyle: Fine line art. Blank ink.

Location: Lower left ribs.

Where from? The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

Why? I really liked this quote because I think it embraces that it is okay to fail and you shouldn’t restrain yourself for fear of failure but give it everything. It something I need to get better at. And this is a quote by Nikolai who is an amazing character (who doesn’t love him?) Plus I love Leigh Bardugo’s writing. And the crown for royalty as I love Princes in books so it a touch to that and the arrows because it frames the quote and I love arrow tattoo’s so much– I used to really want one on my little finger. And I think arrows give off a fantasy vibe so I love that. It would be fine line art and the writing is joined up and slanted. It probably has a name but I couldn’t find it.

wp-1599692036440.png

IDEA THREE: ‘What is it about the night time that makes us dream impossible things?’

20190523_135312.jpg

Style: Fine line art. Black ink. Joined thin writing.

Location: Underside of arm bicep (right or left). Not taking up whole space.

Where from? The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke

Why? I love this quote (I forgot the question mark in the picture so imagine that) but I love the idea of imagine impossible things especially at night. I love the idea of dreams and things that sound impossible. I just love it!! And I didn’t draw this very well but I would have constellations framing the quote because I love stars and I think constellations tattoos look great!!

wp-1599692036426.png

IDEA FOUR: ‘I am haunted by humans’

20190524_163454.jpg

Style: Typewriter font. Thin. Black ink.

Location: Inner side of my right foot

Where from? The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Why? Another quote (fun fact: I like quotes) but this was a beautiful quote and I loved where it was written in the book and who is was said by. And it was perfect. Plus I really like the book. And I am in agreement with the quote as well— and I think in typewriter quote written in a small size on one line on the side of my foot would look really nice.

wp-1599692036440.png

IDEA FIVE: ‘Your Now Is Not Your Forever’

20190531_125108.jpg

Style: Joined thin writing. ‘Water coloured’ flowers in pastel colours.

Location: unsure

Where from? Turtles All The Way Down by John Green

Why? I love this quote and it is the reason I picked this book up. I just think it is great– time changes and so will your situation. No matter how bad it seems now, it will get better. I think it is a great message and the quote is just worded perfectly!! And the ‘water coloured’ flowers are pretty and optimistic.

wp-1599692036426.png

IDEA SIX: ‘Don’t rely on something as insubstantial as a miracle’

20190530_111026.jpg

Style: Fine line. All black. Joined thin writing.

Location: unsure

Where from? All For The Game by Nora Sakavic

Why? I love the ‘All For The Game’ series, it’s kind of messy but I love it!! This quote might be negative in some ways but I think it is kind of positive, like don’t rely on miracles, rely on working hard for yourself. Plus I really like Kevin Day and he said this quote.

wp-1599692036440.png

IDEA SEVEN: ‘Dream me the world’

20190524_160733.jpg

Style: Fine line. All black. Joined thin writing.

Location: Left, lower ribs. The feather in line with the ribs.

Where from? The Raven Cycle by Maggie Steifvater

Why? I love ‘The Raven Cycle’ series so much. The characters and everything. And it full of great lines such as ‘I am being perfectly f**king civil’ but I don’t think I can imagine having that tattooed on me. But I also love ‘dream me the world’– it just sounds so magical. And then a raven feather because feathers are cool and I think you can position in really nice on your ribs.

wp-1599692036426.png

IDEA EIGHT: ‘Heart, spade, diamond and club design’

Style: Fine line. Black and Red. (Intricate design where outline of symbol which swirls and detailing in the middle)

Location: Small design on left wrist

Where from? Six of Crows inspired. This isn’t very direct but Six of Crows reminds me of cards. So it is like a little symbol for me. Plus I think I think the symbols looks cool.

Why? I really love Six of Crows. I love the cast of characters, the heist, the romances, the magic. It is one of my favourite series so that is really the only reason why.

wp-1599692036440.png

IDEA NINE: Something to do with my book that I am writing *self-centred much*

Style: Guess what??? Fine line art. It would little symbols from my book that resemble the system. It wouldn’t be in your face. And it would be all black or different colours for each symbol.

Location: By writing arm (obviously) so the lower underside of my right arm.

Where from? My book if I ever finish it

Why? I would have finished my book, what is better than celebrating the pain of writing a book with more pain. Obviously, the book that am writing means a lot to me so getting a tattoo would be to remember that I did it, I WROTE A BOOK!! Plus, I do love my own book and the journey so it would be a little thing for me really.

wp-1605636881060.png

Those are some of my idea for bookish tattoo’s. I wouldn’t get them all and if I was doing it I would think about it a bit more maybe like know the font names and research but this was just for fun.

I think the ones I’m most likely to get is the ‘there is some good in the world’ with sword, ‘dream me the world’ with feather and the one to do with my own book.

Do you have a bookish tattoo? Are you going to get a tattoo? What is your opinion on tattoo’s?
What tattoo would you get to do with books?

Ooh.. Yes that tattoo would be really cool!! I mean six of crows is amazing and I think that design is really nice and would look awesome!! If you ever get it, I hope you love it (and that it doesn’t hurt too much 😂)

  2. I do not have a tattoo, and I don’t think I will get one as I am so unfortunate and clumsy that I am sure I would somehow get infected or blood poisoning. I don’t mind seeing other people’s tattoo’s, in fact, I think some of theme are BEAUTIFUL! (much like your sketches!) I personally love your Grisha Trilogies quote design, and Turtles all the Way Down quote! I really enjoyed TATWD but a lot of people didn’t. Did you enjoy it?

    1. Yes I always forget about the risk of infection so you would have to be careful– I love the idea of a tattoo but I think the reality would be more painful!! 😂 Some tattoos are AMAZING– the artists are so talented!! (And thank you so much for saying that about my sketches, it’s very kind ❤) thank you– I really like that quote from the Grisha trilogy ! And TATWD— I did enjoy it. It was different from my usual reads and I thought it had really good representation. It wasn’t one of my favourite but I still enjoyed reading it. I’m glad you liked it!!! 💛

Ahh… Thank you so much Aditi!!! 💙 and I’m glad you liked my drawings– I thought it would be handy to get what I’m trying to say across 😂😂 yes The Book Thief is such an amazing book so I would love a tattoo inspired from it and I love the TATWD quote 😍!! Yes I did think about a Harry Potter one too– especially a Dumbledore quote (he has so many good quotes)!!

        1. Yay I’m glad to hear (and thank you again *blushes*) 😊 yes all great books!! Aww.. I am scared of the needle too but if I really want a tattoo I think I might go for it one day… maybe!! 😂😂 I’ll force my sister to do it with me then I’ll have to do it 😂😂

  4. Your drawings are really good! And I love all of the quotes that you’ve chosen. I adore all of your designs but I think the first two and the feather one are probably my favourites. They’re all so lovely though! And I think it’s a fantastic idea to get a tattoo of your own book; it’s such a wonderful way to celebrate getting it done and surely the sort of thing that a tattoo is perfect for. Although I honestly don’t think I’d ever get one – I’m really not a fan of needles! I’ve always hated getting jabs so having to have a needle constantly painting something onto my skin is pretty much a terrifying idea for me. Also good luck with your book ❤❤❤

    1. Aww.. Thank you so much Charlotte!! ❤❤ yes whilst writing this I definitely realised I love quotes 😂 aww.. I’m the first one and the feather were one of my favourites!! Thank you 😭❤ that’s so sweet!! Yes I think it would be cool to get a tattoo after writing a book like a personal sign of your accomplishment!! 😊 yes I would be very worried about the needles as I don’t like them myself but one day I might be brave enough especially if I have a design in mind that I want!! Thank you so much ❤💛

      1. It’s fine, it was true after all! Yes quotes are fabulous and some are just so, so beautiful. They are amazing 😀 Definitely and having one linked to something that you’ve written just seems perfect somehow. Well you certainly have a lot of wonderful ones to try out if you ever do work up the nerve to get one! Thank you for the fantastic post! ❤

  5. I’m the exact same as you! I love how tattoos look but I could never deal with the needle 😂
These drawings were so good though! Like, before I read your warning I thought they were all designs you’d gotten off Pinterest or something! 💕

    1. Yes I’m glad I’m not alone 😂 needles just creep me out 😂 aww.. Thank you so much 💛 Oh wow really?!?! I did put a filter on the pictures so they looked less like pen and paper 😂 I thought it was the easiest way to get my design across!! 😂

  6. WHAT these are all such beautiful quotes and designs!!! I love them!! I am also very indecisive and love the idea of getting a bookish tattoo but can’t decide on what ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think I’d lean toward something from LOTR or the Raven Cycle! My favorite of these that you’ve designed is the one from Turtles All the Way Down – that quote is just beautiful, and I love the flowers!!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Aww… Thank you so much ❤ I do love a good quote!! Yes it is a hard decision because tattoos are very permeant so it requires lots of thinking 😂 Yes to do it for a book you love is a good start– I love the raven cycle. The quote from TATWD is great– I will always love it and flowers are so pretty!! 😍

  7. I would LOVE to get a bookish tattoo, but I am too afraid of pain and commitment, so… 😂

But I love your designs! They’re all very cute, and I wouldn’t mind having tattoos like that at all! My basic opinion on tattoos is that people should get tattoos about something that is meaningful to them, because if they get a bunch of meaningless tattoos, they might get bored of them or run out of room for other tattoos they want later on! (But this is just my opinion!) But I love looking at bookish tattoos, even though I know I won’t ever get one. 🙂 I love these ideas, especially the idea of getting a tattoo from your own writing!

    1. I know I think tattoo are amazing but I would be concerned about the pain and it is certainly a commitment 😂
Thank you so much 💕 I think I would have a small design if I was to have a tattoo!! Yes I agree with that– I like to have a meaning behind it so it will always feel special– probably why I would overthink it 😂
I like looking at tattoos too and you never know I might get one one day!! 😂 Thank you– yes a tattoo to do with my writing would feel special and a little touch to the journey I’ve been on!! 💛

  8. Oh my god I don’t think I’d ever be able to get a tattoo as I can’t handle needles… at all hahaha, but… wow. All of your designs are SO GREAT and I love your picks so, so very much! That quote from LOTR is one of my favorites and that Raven Boys one looks SO good and I just love it so much as well ahhhh. You’d convince me to get a tattoo despite my fear with these haha 😀

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha I understand that– I am not the biggest fan of needles but I think I could be tempted if I am really excited about the design!! 😂 Aww.. Thank you so much 💕💕 Yes I will always love that quote from LoTR– it so true and inspiring!! Thank you– I love the raven cycle so I thought that would be a good pick (and feathers look good 😂) Thank you again, that’s so sweet!!! ❤ haha amazing I love that 😂!!

  9. I LOVE this post!! Such an incredible idea. I want some bookish tattoos but I’m not sure exactly what I want. I think it’d be cool to get something for my WIP too and maybe something that has to do with writing itself.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Ahh… thank you so much!!! ❤ Yes deciding what to get is a hard decision– I love so many books!!
Yes I think getting something to do with your WIP would mean a lot as it's to do with the journey and it would be quite personal to you!! Yes something to do with writing in general would be really nice too!! 🙂

  10. Such a creative idea for a post!! I LOOVE tattoos but currently I don’t have the courage to get one haha. But if I ever do, I would really like a feather on my just above my collar bone and “bonjour” in tiny lettering on the inside of my wrists haha

For someone who is so scared to have tattoos, I sure have some dreams 😂

    1. Thank you– I really enjoyed thinking about the different tattoo designs tbh!!
I’m the same– I would be scared to get a tattoo but I would be tempted to push through the fear as I like how they look!!
Ooh.. a feather one would be awesome– I love how they look!! Bonjour sounds like a nice tattoo as well– tiny lettering is so delicate and nice!
You never know maybe one day you will get one!! 😂

  11. uhh im sorry that i’m like bURSTING INTO THIS POST 500 years after you posted, but IM SO IMPRESSED BY THESE SKETCHES??????they all look so good, wow, okay!
also, i was just remembered through your post of the quote “dream me the world” from the raven cycle and i’m crying real tears right now. so, thanks i guess? it’s happy tears, like “i love ronan and gansey so much” tears.
i think about getting a tattoo for ari & dante, but similarly to you, i’m also indecisive about placing and scared of needles, so i don’t know if i’ll ever be able to. however, i’d love to tattoo either the quote “words are different when they live inside you” or the back from a pick-up truck, like the one ari drives. another favorite moment of the book for me is the dialogue between ari & dante, that goes something like: “ari: i love the desert. / dante: really? it’s so lonely. / ari: is it?” i love that conversation, because it just shows that even though ari likes being alone, he doesn’t feel lonely, and the desert is where he feels at peace. anyway, don’t mind me rambling about ari & dante here, but i’d love to have a reference to that on my skin forever, since that book means a whole lot.
but the dream me the world one would be perfect too!!!! these sketches are si great, honestly, there’s absolutely nothing terrible about them!

    1. Haha!! No it’s fine– burst into my posts anytime 😂😂!! Thank you— I was a bit unsure about the drawings but I was too lazy to redo them tbh so that’s lovely to hear!!
I love the quote ‘dream me the world’ so much!! I’m glad they are happy tears– they are perfect, the friendships are so beautiful and they mean so much to each other– I just adore it!!
Getting a tattoo for Ari & Dante would be so amazing– yes tattoos are a permanent thing so I definitely would be overthinking it and I don’t like needles but I think if it something I really want I would go for it but I don’t know!!!
That is such a lovely quote to have tattooed on you— so beautiful!! The pick up truck definitely reminds me of Ari now so I love that too!!
I love that you have that conversation memorised and I agree about what you said– how it shows he is alone but isn’t lonely– I can relate to that and it is such a beautiful way to show it!! You can always ramble about Ari and Dante to me!! I think they would all be lovely tattoo’s especially as they mean a lot to you. Maybe one day you will get one 🙂
Aw.. thank you so much again– that makes me so happy to hear!! ❤

  12. Omigosh, these were lovely, Sophie!! I didn’t know most of the quotes that were mentioned, but I totally feel like I need to now that you brought all of the meanings and adorable sketches with them. Bookish tattoos are always the best way to go, and these were just so great. Wonderful post! 🙂
