The Pancake Book Tag | Sweet Treats and Books

Hey everyone!

And welcome to this GLORIOUS tag!!

The Pancake Book Tagh

Yep, you’ve read it right, books and pancakes together in this wonderful tag. Pancakes are glorious to eat and are definitely my favourite sweet meal. Of course, I love books too so I am very excited to participate in this tag.  It is going to be so much fun!

I do not take responsibility for any desire to have pancakes after this post but I am not sorry about it either.

The Boneless Mercies (you can read my review for it, *sneaky self-plug*). The strongest point of this story to me was the writing, it was lyrical and really elegant. It suited the atmosphere of the story as well. And I really loved this quote from it “What is it about the nighttime that makes us dream impossible things?”

Kellen from the Spellslinger series by Sebastien De Castell (read my post on it *yay self plug again*). Kellen is a spectacular narrator who is witty and sassy and always capable of some quick retort whether in his head or out loud. He is sarcastic and I love his voice for the series.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling. Although I have only read it once two years ago, I know it is a comforting read because of Harry’s introduction to the wizarding world– it felt so magical and I watched the movie when I was younger so it does have that nostalgia with it. And the whole concept of Harry finding somewhere he belonged and could call home, the friends he made and the experience he went on. It’s what made this series so good and it is comforting because as a reader you got that sense of home from being at Hogwarts. Still waiting for my Hogwarts letter with millions of others!!

All for the Game series ‘the whole series not just one book’ by Nora Sakavic. This is perfect because this is my most recent book hangover.  The characters felt so rich and developed and you constantly found out things about them through the series. And it has a great ‘found family’ in the end so I really connected to the story as you got to see them connect to each other. I really enjoyed it and I keep thinking about it. You can read my review here.

The Book Thief By Markus Zusak. Now putting this under ‘indulgent’ may be slightly weird because it is quite a sad story and it definitely covers a tough time in history. But the writing is beautiful and it is about the power of words and books and it all just gives me a need to hug the book. It might be indulgence in the sense it is so good you cry for hours though.

Zoya from the Grisha trilogy and Nikolai duology. Zoya mostly fits the category in King of Scars, not the Grisha trilogy as you get to really delve into her character in KoS. So in the Grisha trilogy, she is very snappy and angry at the world but in KoS you can see another side and get to know about her background. And it was great– I loved Zoya and she is an absolute queen!! (You can see all my spoilery KoS thoughts here— I had a lot to say)

This was hard for me because I couldn’t think of a particular plot that really kept me guessing but this book does have a lot happen in it and I was constantly picking it up to see what would happen. Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. Yep, Leigh Bardugo has got two mentions in this tag but if you have read this series you will know how action-packed it is and how so many things keep happening. It has great characters too!! And I love the Six of Crows duology.

17675462*’The Raven Boys’ spoiler in regard to relationships below*

Blue and Gansey from the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. I was a big fan of Adam in this series. In the first book, Adam and Blue were potentially going to be together, I thought Gansey going to be in the love triangle and I just didn’t want that. It felt predictable and I didn’t want them to all fall out over it. But the way it played out worked so well with the characters and it was developed really well and I think ‘Blue and Gansey or Blusey if you will’ were a good couple.wp-1599692036426.pngThe Pancake Book Tag 8

Arobynn Hamel is from the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas but I associate him mostly with Queen of Shadows but he is mentioned/featured in other books too. But if you have read this book you will know he is a class A *bad word* who deserves bad things ONLY. He is just really cruel and puts people through a lot so I recoil far, far away from him. He can stay with peanut butter all by himself!! (I don’t like peanut butter either).

I recently read Warcross by Marie Lu and I really enjoyed the diversity in it. I loved how it included POC, LGBQ+ and disability representation. It wasn’t all heavily touched upon but it was there. I also enjoyed getting little glimpses into Japanese culture as the majority of the book is in Tokyo and as a global competition, I enjoyed the fact that everyone from lots of countries came together and how the technology removed the language barrier was really cool and everyone got to interact with each other.

Thank you so much to Becky for the nomination.

What is your go-to pancake topping? What is a book that gave you a serious book hangover?

  1. Ahhhh, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING MY TAG. I can’t explain how weird it feels seeing the images I made on someone else’s blog like wow this makes me HAPPY. ❤ I'm glad you had so much fun with it too!

I loved all your answers! I've seen a lot of love for All for the Game, I really need to look into it more! And Arobynn, what a great choice for a character that makes you recoil!

I think I love the cover of The Boneless Mercies each time more and more I see it. It's a work of art! I picked The Night Circus for the writing category on my tag, but my current read The Binding would also fit it perfectly. The writing is like honey and I would totally recommend it!

Shadow of Bone is next on my to read list (my first ever Leigh Bardugo) so fingers crossed I like it! I'm trying not to be scared of the internet hype. 🙂

Thank you. Yeah I love that series– I got invested very quick but I know some who don’t like it so it isn’t for everyone but I recommend it!! 😊 yes Arobynn is horrible!!

Yes it is super pretty– I am sad I don’t have that version of the cover. The cover I have is still pretty but I prefer this one 😂 oohhh… I will have to check it out. I do like lyrical writing!! 😊
Aww… I hope you enjoy. I do love Leigh Bardugo’s writing but I think her stories improve as you read her later stuff. I know the internet hype can be so daunting. Happy reading 💕

I’ve heard good things about the All for the Game series so far and I’m glad to hear that you’ve enjoyed it too. I absolutely agree that HP gives me that magical “home” feeling as well 🙂

    1. Hey Sophie!! Thank you– I am glad you enjoyed my answers!! 😊
I would recommend Spellslinger– I found it a really enjoyable read. It didn’t blow me away but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. And the main character is great and his narration makes it for me– he is sarcastic and witty and the humour is delivered really well. It is part of a 6 part series and I have only read this first two so far but I am interested in where it will go! 😊
